Feathers & Bones is Tanya Ward's ten track debut album featuring original compositions that span over her 7 years of playing and composing on the banjo. The album weaves between contemporary folk, roots and blues, and features elements of soul and jazz.
"The idea of taking the banjo out of its traditional folk context and creating music with non traditional folk instruments is what inspires my songwriting" she says. Having collaborated with punk guitarist, Strang (The Stiffs) for the recording of this album, his electric guitar drives into each composition complimenting the banjo to bring a bluesy quality to the music.
The album takes us to the Lake District, Cumbria when she was living in a tent beside Englands largest lake, Windermere, to the lockdown of 2020 where she decided to hit the country and set up camp in outback NSW, to living and working on boats in the Gulf of Carpentaria, to her roots in Blackburn, Lancashire where her family is from.
The album was recorded over 6 days by Joe Fossard, in Blackburn, Lancashire and released in May 25.
